Mediation

An Effective Form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Mediation is an effective tool for resolving disputes outside of the courtroom. It allows disputing parties to come to a settlement agreement more quickly and cost effectively than resolving an issue through a trial.

I am attorney J. Burton Hunter, III, a trial lawyer who has a reputation for aggressively representing my clients’ best interests. It is less well known that I am also a strong believer in the mediation process. In am trained mediator, and in my practice, mediation is successful about 75 to 80 percent of the time.

A Thoughtful Approach to Every Mediation

I put a great deal of thought and analysis into how to make a mediation work. I initiate settlement discussions early and invite the other party and their lawyer to a face-to-face meeting. And I never send my clients into a mediation alone. I will be there, by your side, throughout the process.

One of the reasons I have been so effective in resolving cases for my clients through mediation is that I have received extensive training in mediation and have served as a mediator myself. Relying on this knowledge and my 30-plus years of legal experience, I am able to work with the parties involved to facilitate a settlement.

Balancing Settlement and Your Interests

I work to build consensus and resolution without sacrificing my client’s best interest. This is particularly important in negotiating divorce and family law issues where there is a long history of one partner always getting his or her way. I make sure that party knows the old rules no longer apply. You can be assured that I will not let the other party take advantage of you.
